This is our last summer in the desert and hopefully the last time we have to endure running in extreme heat. I tried doing the treadmill thing for a few weeks, but that thing just beats up my body. Plus, the gym has had air-conditioning problems and hasn't been all that cooler than early mornings.
My goal is to just do a very short run every morning and then do weights, pilates or HIIT when I get home. You have to find what works in the heat and this is my remedy: ice cold water + wet wash cloth + running in the shade = survival.
I'm thankful for a shaded path around our neighborhood!
Even just running 2 miles leaves me drenched in sweat. When I walk in the door, I always find this:
"Please take me with you? I'm such a good girl."
Occasionally I'll take Maya back out for a short walk, but I have to be very careful that the sidewalk isn't too hot for her paws.
